Golden Dorado Fishing
Esteros del Iberá, Argentina
One of Argentina’s most exciting game fish has been kept a secret until just recently. In the last few years however, the Golden Dorado, or “river tiger”' as it is fondly referred to, has become the preferred fish of many international anglers…and for good reason.
Our Golden Dorado Fishing Lodge is perfectly situated in the Ibera Marshland of Argentina’s Corrientes province. The Ibera Marshland is a vast system of non-polluted crystal-clear creeks, flowing rivers, shallows and lakes. The area not only has spectacular Golden Dorado fishing, but also allows for many non-fishing nature safari options. The Ibera Marchland is home to more than 350 species of birds (including parrots, southern screamers, kingfishers, ibis, herons, many more), 85 mammals and almost 70 reptiles, as well as an incredible variety of flora. For anglers looking to combine the excitement of Golden Dorado fishing with a true wilderness experience and 5-star accommodations, this is your place!
The Fishing
High Season – October to April April
The Golden Dorado (salminus maxillosus) is an aggressive fish, and once hooked makes impressive acrobatic displays and multiple jumps. Golden Dorado can be found near confluences, on edges of eddies, riffles, sharp bends in the current, and close to overhanging carpets of waterside vegetation.
Golden Dorado fishing at this lodge is unique. Here, the fishing is done in clear water with light spinning tackle and with fly rods. Little to no pressure, coupled with catch-and-release policies, ensures that anglers get the most out of their Golden Dorado fishing trips. Our professional fishing guides have been fishing for Golden Dorado in the Ibera Marchland for years, and are always on hand to offer helpful fishing advice.
The Lodge
Opened in March 2000, this lodge was the world's first 5-star lodge to target Golden Dorado fishing. The fishing lodge is located in the famous Ibera Marshland, one of the most exceptional and striking wetlands in the world. This gorgeous fishing lodge was built with classical Corrientes style, and spectacular broad windows allow for panoramic views of the vast wetlands. Accommodating up to 10 guests in five large rooms, each room consists of a private entrance, private bath, two double beds and is air conditioned. A separate building, attached by covered galleries, contains the spacious living room, bar and dining room. Tall doors throughout the lodge open up to the wide veranda. The lodge was designed to respect the traditional local architecture while offering all of the comforts of a contemporary hotel and providing a fishing-lodge atmosphere.
Location
The Golden Dorado Fishing Lodge is located in the Corrientes province of northeast Argentina. Specifically, it is located in the middle of the Ibera Marshlands, within 1,300,000 hectares of natural reserve. For comparison, the area is twice the size of the Florida Everglades. The lodge sits right on the edge of a channel providing direct access to the marsh system and to the Corrientes River, which is located 15 min south of the fishing lodge. The province of Corrientes borders Uruguay and is home to subtropical climate patterns, perfect for Golden Dorado Fishing, with temperatures in the mid-80s early and late in the season.
