The Fishing
High Season - May 1 to August 31
Low Season - January 3 to April 30 and September 1 to January 2
For fishermen seeking out blue marlin, the waters of the Costa Rica’s northwest coast are widely considered some of the finest in the world. Though blue marlins can be caught year-round, the action is best from December to April. Occasionally, striped marlin can also be caught during that time. In all, over 25 different species are regularly caught in the area waters. Sailfish fishing is also incredible, and is best from April through September. From October to March, boats still average 1 to 2 sailfish per boat per day. Experienced guides and boat crews work well with everyone from beginner anglers to professionals, and can assist with both fly fishing and light tackle fishing. Apart from the great billfish action, huge Roosters in the area attract anglers from all over the world. More trophy-sized Roosters are landed here than any other place in the world - 40 to 60 pound Roosters can be taken any month of the year.
The Lodging
This is more of a fishing resort than a fishing lodge. First-class hotel-style amenities include a full spa and gourmet international restaurants. There are also tennis courts, swimming pools, Jacuzzis and a gym. The fishing resort is situated on Costa Rica’s beautiful Northern Pacific shore and provides breathtaking panoramic vistas of the Papagayo Gulf.
Other Activities
Scuba diving at here is world renowned, and the Ocotal’s waters are considered a “must-visit” for diving enthusiasts. Divers can expect to see whale sharks, sea turtles, bull sharks, giant mantas, huge schools of fish, white tip sharks, dolphins, jacks, rays and much more. Golfing, eco tours, health spa activities, beach combing, snorkeling tours, kayak trips and mountain bike tours are just a few of the other activities available to anglers and non-anglers.
Location
This resort is located in the northwest Papagyo Gulf region of Costa Rica. Though the little town of Ocotal feels remote, there are several other little towns in the general area including the towns of Playa del Coco and Flamingo.
