Trout Fishing in Patagonia
Esquel, Argentina

"Unbelievable trip! We had such a great time! The people in the entire country were unbelievably friendly, kind and helpful...the folks at the lodge even more so. Great staff, great food and good to great fishing at the lodge. We couldn't have asked for anything more. It was all that it was cracked up to be."
- John

This fishing lodge is famous among international fishermen for good reason. Perfectly situated in the heart of some of Argentina’s most majestic scenery and best trout fishing rivers, this lodge has it all. The Esquel “concept” combines professionalism, elegance, beautiful scenery and, of course, Argentina’s finest trout fishing experience.

The Fishing

Season - November 1 to April 30

The Esquel area and the Comarca de Los Alerces are often considered the most important trout fishing areas in Argentina. Over a hundred years ago, trout were successfully introduced to scores of glacial lakes and hundreds of rivers and streams. Our professional teams of trout fishing guides are led by famed outfitter Guillermo Sagui. Guillermo has over 20 years of experience fishing in this area and is widely recognized as one of the most accomplished fishing guides in Patagonia. Guillermo is one of the founding partners of the Chubut Fly Fishing Guide Association and served as Association’s Chairman from 1996 to 2003. Currently, he is one of the head professors at the Chubut Fly Fishing Guide School. Trout fishing programs are based on the famous Futaleufú River – easily the best trout fishing river in the region. Typically, the trout fishing is done by floating and wading in a combination of rivers, spring creeks and lakes. Trout fishing techniques usually include a mix of dry fly, dry droppers, streamers and nymphs.

The Lodge
This fishing lodge offers rustic luxury and incredible views. Strategically built to be close to the fishing action, anglers often fish in site of the fishing lodge. For the sake of maintaining an intimate and private feel, Esquel has only six guestrooms, each with private bath. All rooms offer magnificent vistas of the Futaleufú River and the towering Andes mountains. There are multiple lounging areas and a fully stocked bar for evening cocktails. The fishing lodge also has a SPA, a Jacuzzi, a sauna, and a Scottish shower. Professional masseuses are on site and provide the ultimate relaxation after a long day of great fishing. Furthermore, each meal is made to be memorable. Professional chefs treat guests to fine international and regional cuisine and amazing wines. “I hated to leave,” said international fly fishing expert Mel Krieger.

Location
Esquel is located in the Trevelin Valley in the Western Argentina province of Chubut. The lodge rests on the bank of the Futaleufú River, and is just a short distance away from the Los Alerces National Park.
